Two years ago, I married my BFF. We chose to get married on my great grandmother’s birthday. It was one of my favorite days growing up because she was the one positive adult in my family that lived nearby and was easily accessible. She and I shared a bond between illnesses and being downright awesome.
The day was full of friends and family and love and laughter. My pain was low. We played Cards Against Humanity afterward.
It was kind of the best thing ever.
In a month, we’ll have been together for nine years. It’s amazing that we’ve lasted this long, especially since so many relationships affected by illness don’t.
Marriage isn’t the thing for everyone, but it suits us pretty well.
